CASING SPECIFICATIONS
GRADE
A:
Casings
for retreading that HAVE NOT BEEN previously retreaded, remoulded
nor repaired with a section. Grade "A" casings have at least
1/32" of original tread remaining and have not been regrooved.
Grade "A" casings DO NOT CONTAIN the following:
- Significant weather
checking
- Damage requiring
a major section repair
- More than 2 nail
holes (nylon), more than 1 nail hole (radial), Penetrating injury is
less than 5mm (approximately 3/16")
- Obvious run-low
conditions
- Tread Skid
- Deep tread cuts
due to sharp rocks, metal, etc., damaging nylon or steel cords
- Excessive sidewall
abrasion or damage
- Sidewall ripple
or bulges
- Bead damage or
deformity
- Circumferential
cracking around the bead area
- Separation
GRADE B:
Casings may contain any of the listed conditions, but are limited to a
maximum of two of the following injuries:
- Casings with no
remaining tread
- Previously repaired
nail hole injuries
- Deep tread cuts
acceptable
- Maximum 4 nail
holes but not grouped together (nylon), including previous repairs
- Maximum 2 nail
holes but not grouped together (radial), including previous repairs
- Minor damage on
sidewall/shoulder (rubber only) are acceptable, but no damage to fabric
or steel cords, needs no more than spot repairs, maximum of two per
tire
- Bead damage to
rubber only
- All other conditions
same as Grade "A" casings
GRADE R1:
Once capped casings are those that have been previously top or full capped,
and may contain any of the following:
- Previously repaired
damage acceptable
- Tread cuts acceptable
- Skid acceptable,
underlying fabric or steel not exposed
- Sidewall damage
to rubber only, needs no more than spot repairs, maximum of two per
tire
- All other conditions
same as Grade "A" casings
